Favorites cruise early on at the WTA Finals Singapore

After a string of predictable results in the first days of the competition, the WTA Finals Singapore scheduled wta-finals-2015some intense confrontations.

In one group Halep and Sharapova were scheduled to play against each other, with the winner being virtually certain of qualifying for the next stage.

The two tennis players had no problem in dispatching their opponents in the opening round, although the Russian required three sets to prevail over Radwanska.

The Polish player took on Pennetta earlier in the day and the US open winner took the world of fans by surprise when sets. Punters were surely surprised by the outcome, but they will have more chances to recuperate their losses because the decisive match promises to be truly special.

Sharapova also exceed expectations by defeating the Romanian player in straight sets and extended her winning streak to six games in a row.

In the other group, Muguruza is making her debut in on the most respectable tennis tournaments in the world and people are wondering how will she cope with pressure. She wasn’t overwhelmed in the opening match and although she required a tiebreak to finish off Safarova she did what had to be done. The next challenge is to defeat Kerber, a resilient German player that also won the first match against the former champion that has since fallen from grace.

Kvitova is a formidable opponent when she has a good day, with strong forehands and the devastating backhand. Unfortunately for the Czech player, good days are a rarity lately and she was unable to play her game against the German. At one point, she looked capable of pushing the match into a decisive set, but failed to convert the breakpoint opportunities.

She is not out of the qualification picture, but will need to win the remaining two games, starting with the fixture against Safarova.

This match between two players from the Czech Republic is going to be special as the loser is pretty much eliminated from this tournament. Kvitova clearly had the upper hand because the two players have met on seven occasions so far and she won every single time.

The problem is that she is not at full strength and has serious fitness concerns, so it could be a bit difficult for her to stage an incredible comeback and make a bid for the title.
